Affiliate Marketing Smart and Savvy

My first exposure to Affiliate Marketing was by accident with the start of a new job. I found an income line item in my Marketing Budget called "affiliates" that was bringing in net about $54k per month! That got my attention and from there I learned the ins and outs of this internet distribution channel.

Interestingly enough, I have not seen a definition of the word affiliate, so in case you were wondering, it is defined as "a small company or organization that is related to or controlled by a larger one" per Longman Dictionary of American English.

Thus, affiliate marketing is marketing with a small company or organization that your company is related to, or more current, one that you control (though affilates can be a bit renegade in their behavior I discovered!).

There are different types of affiliate products, different quality and different ways of getting paid.

At my job I was working with Commission Junction, a company that works with larger software companies and advertisers.

Independent Internet Marketers lean towards Clickbank which is more focused on informational products and the home based marketplace.

Affiliate Marketing is the best way to begin an internet business and is a smart first step of your internet marketing strategies as it allows you to generate income more quickly without creating your own product first. Once you have learned the ropes of internet marketing through being an affiliate you can develop your own product, or not. Some IMers make a fabulous living being affiliates.
